One of the main objectives of the project is to devise innovative teaching workshops to explore the areas of study that CECIL embraces. The focus of these initiatives is to develop ways of improving literacy skills (both reading comprehension and written production) and textual analysis.
CECIL teaching workshops are conceptualised as permanent spaces that offer learning activities and tasks that provide practice in textual interpretation and analysis, developing writing skills at different levels of competence and in various domains, both in Italian and in foreign languages.
CECIL workshops adopt cutting edge theoretical and methodological approaches to linguistic and textual analysis and to teaching advanced writing skills. The workshops are structured in such a way as to optimize the teacher/student ratio, thus promoting intensive learning and practice with activities that aim to enhance textual comprehension and interpretation as well as textual production.
In December 2023 new workshops are officially added to the Department’s Curricula for Undergraduate and Master’s Degree courses.
In 2024-2025 new workshops will be launched.
Informatica umanistica
Effective writing for professional contexts (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to develop students’ scientific and professional writing skills. Students are required to choose a topic relevant to their research interests and produce an essay compliant with the basic rules of academic and professional Italian.
How to write your thesis (3 ECTS): the workshop is aimed at providing students with the tools necessary to write a thesis (structure, data retrieval, selection and distribution of information). The course guides students in writing academic texts of gradually increasing complexity and length.
Lettere
Argumentative writing workshop (6 ECTS): the workshop aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge of forms, registers and objectives of scientific and argumentative writing in the fields of literature, linguistics and philology. Building on the themes and examples discussed in class, students will write texts of varying lengths according to their progressive familiarization with registers, structural criteria, organization and aims of scientific and argumentative writing.
Italian writing workshop (6 ECTS): the workshop aims to consolidate the Italian writing skills necessary to tackle exams, presentations and final papers of the three-year course, with particular reference to expository and argumentative texts. It also aims to provide the tools for refining bibliographical research as well as knowledge of basic editorial and academic citation rules. Students will be evaluated through in-progress tests, drafting research papers or preparing presentations other activities related to text production.
Lingue, letterature e comunicazione interculturale
Reading and writing Nature: pathways to ecocriticism (3 ECTS): the workshop focuses on the linguistic, stylistic and hermeneutic analysis of iconic texts from the Anthropocene. Part of the course will be devoted to the writing of short texts: reviews of narrative or films, blog posts, short articles.
LIT – Interpreting texts (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to guide students in the analysis of texts (prose, poetry, nonfiction), introducing them to interpretation and to research in the field of the Humanities.
Introduction to textual analysis and writing (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to familiarise students with the main theoretical approaches to textual analysis from a multidisciplinary perspective to develop their critical-theoretical skills for the interpretation of written and oral texts in poetry and prose.
How to write your final thesis (3 ECTS): the workshop focuses on the process of drafting and presenting the final thesis for the undergraduate degree course. Students will be given practical exercises on the topics tackled in class (critical reading, summarizing and filing, writing an annotated bibliography, etc.).
Informatica umanistica
Techniques of dissemination of literature on the web (3 ECTS): the workshop focuses on some specific forms of writing for the dissemination of literary contents on the Web: reviews, bibliographic records, biographical profiles, critical profiles, literary-historical summaries, as well as videos, podcasts, digital maps. Each student will practice different forms of writing and will work on multimedia products.
Italianistica
Analysis and commentary of contemporary Italian narrative texts (3 ECTS): the workshop provides students with the theoretical tools and practice to enhance skills in the analysis and commentary of contemporary Italian narrative texts. Students will produce stylistic, rhetorical and narratological analysis and write in-depth essays.
Language and text analysis of medieval and modern Italian literature (6 ECTS): the workshop is divided into two modules (Italian-Romance vernacular texts; Mediolatin/ Neo-Latin texts) and aims to provide the theoretical tools and knowledge for the linguistic and philological analysis of texts of medieval and modern bilingual Italian literature, through exercises and practical tasks focusing on lexical, morphological, orthographic and syntactic features.
Professional writing lab (3 cfu): the workshop is designed to guide students in the analysis and linguistic revision of texts from various professional fields (administration, law, social-health). Students will work on authentic materials and have the opportunity to practice focused skills. A final written test will be taken at the end of course.
Lingue, letterature e filologie euroamericane
Language, writing and research planning (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to illustrate different genres and to strengthen the fundamentals of scholarly communication. Students will work on different text types and produce examples of the main genres of academic writing (abstracts, scholarly article, bibliographies, research projects).
Editorial design and production (6 ECTS): the workshop introduces students to types of editorial design and production related to the thresholds of the literary text and its supply chain, from pre-press stage, to book form, from blurb to reviews and promotion strategies. Students will work on the production of written models, with emphasis on content organization, communicative and hermeneutic goals and rhetorical-stylistic specificities of different types of production.
Linguistica e traduzione
Writing and rhetoric workshop (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to enhance competence in the use of the main figures of speech in texts of the Western tradition. Examples drawn from literary as well as from non-literary texts of various genres will be discussed. Students will practice writing texts of different lengths and registers.
Writing and linguistic variation workshop (3 ECTS): the workshop aims to refine skills related to the management of linguistic variation in different textual types and genres from various periods and backgrounds. Writing activites will be aimed at both original composition and translation.
